STEM FOR ADMINISTRATORS 2006

The thoughtful and effective use of technology, space science and human resources can enable an academic unit to succeed within the resources available. The STEM Workshop for Administrators program has a year of existence and it already actively engage participants in a more proactive science implementation in their institutions. The STEM Workshop for administrators enhances the knowledge and skills of educational administrators in the importance of heliophysics science so they can provide proper oversight and support of prescribed space and earth science programs. The workshops are crafted to address the specific needs and expectations of NASA STP/LWS Science Program.
The purpose of this 8-day workshop is to enhance the knowledge and skills of district supervisors, science directors, principals in the importance of Solar Science for life and society. Participants may come from any of the national, state, or non-governmental educational districts across the nation. This workshop is crafted to address the specific needs and expectations of educator’s supervisors current issues and to promote teacher leadership in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The program leadership workshop focuses on three important goals:
- Implementing an effective, coherent science literacy system based on the science national standards for the teaching profession;
- Improving student achievement of state science content standards by understanding the STP/LWS Star Partners Education and Public Outreach workshops areas and supporting participating teachers in the heliophysics science implementation in their districts based on needs;
- Enabling participating teachers to move professionally from dependence to independence and from awareness to science literacy expertise and beyond through a well-articulated and implemented program of solar science engagement.
