National Radio Astronomy Observatory – Green Bank, West Virginia
NASA Goddard Space Flight Center’s Solar Terrestrial Probes (STP), Living With A Star (LWS) Program and National Radio Astronomy Observatory’s (NRAO-GB) scientists are collaborating on a six-day astronomy institute. The program is residential and will require participants to live at Green Bank, West Virginia. Lodging, meals, materials and fees are provided for selected participants. Three hours of graduate credit from the West Virginia University will also be included. The only item participants will be responsible for will be transportation.
Participants will be exposed to:
- Cutting edge Sun-Earth Science and Technology.
- Radio astronomy.
- Radio Jove-a workshop designed to assist teachers, students and scientists in the observation and analysis of natural radio transmissions from the Sun and Jupiter.
- The 40 foot radio telescope-provides participants an opportunity to team and work on a project that extends their hands-on, mind’s-on experiences.
- A series of mini courses on astronomy-the Sun and other stars.
- Background Science that you will be able to use in your classroom to raise students’ awareness of the Sun-Earth Connection, astronomy, radio astronomy and the nature of Science.
- Benchmarks and Science Standards.
- A time management piece.
